Police Jobs
One thing our country could always use is a few more good law enforcement officers. Somehow police officers have acquired a bad rap. I'm not sure if it has to do with certain incidents caught on film or the fact that they give out boat loads of speeding tickets, but for some odd reason or another, the American public is not too fond of them. I guess this would make police jobs pretty undesirable. After all, no one wants to attain a position that pays little and offers little rewards. What would the appeal be? Well, if you haven't already heard, salary for police officers has gone up. Finally too many individuals have stood up and said "Pay us what we're worth or we refuse to take on the job." However, even though salaries have increased, there is still a demand for police officers in this country.
I've know several law enforcement officers in my lifetime. This is mostly because my father was in law enforcement his entire life. Anyway, one particular cop I met in Virginia had nothing great to say about police jobs. He was initially outraged regarding his paycheck, or should I say lack there of? Then he fell upon hard times when he was shot in the line of duty and required serious hospital care. The sad part was that the state didn't want to cover his medical bills. Hmm, that's definitely a deterrent when it comes to police jobs. At least police jobs in Virginia. However, this was back in the 1990s. Hopefully things have straightened out since then. If we expect our law enforcement officers to perform well and actually give a damn, we have to treat them properly.
In my opinion, police jobs are for individuals who're looking to raise the bar. When you choose a career in law enforcement, you're basically signing on to protect the general public. You're stating that you will put your life on the line in order to make sure others don't have to. You're tackling the dangerous job everyday so that you can assist in making America a safe and better place to live in. Police jobs are certainly a way to express that you're interested in making a real difference in the world.
